Cleveland Potash
Cleveland Potash is the operator of Boulby mine in North Yorkshire, the world’s only polyhalite mine.

The company recognised the critical importance of real time, accessible health and safety information for its workforce.
In an industry where timely communication can be the difference between safety and risk, the company sought a solution that would streamline the dissemination of vital information across its operations.
Challenges
Operating in a high-risk environment, Cleveland Potash faced several communication challenges. Traditional methods of conveying health and safety information were inadequate for the dynamic and hazardous conditions of the mine. Static signage and manual updates were not sufficient to ensure that all employees received timely and accurate information.
The company needed a system that could deliver real time updates, integrate with existing data sources and be easily managed by the HR team. Additionally, the solution had to be scalable to accommodate the unique requirements of different areas within the mine, ensuring that each location received relevant and up-to-date information.
Solution
In collaboration with ZetaDisplay, Cleveland Potash implemented an interactive digital signage system designed to meet the specific needs of its mining operations. The system featured centrally managed displays that could be easily updated by the HR team, allowing for the swift dissemination of new rules, regulations and safety messages.
The displays showcased key performance indicators (KPIs) and other relevant metrics, pulled directly from the company’s central database, ensuring that the information was current and accurate. An instant messaging feature was also integrated, enabling HR to quickly push vital messages to employees across the site. To address the unique needs of different areas within the mine, the system included building-specific displays, each tailored to the specific requirements of that location. Additionally, a live weather feed was incorporated to provide real time environmental information, further enhancing situational awareness for the workforce.

Benefits
The implementation of the digital signage system brought significant improvements to Cleveland Potash’s health and safety communications. The ability to deliver real-time updates ensured that employees were always informed of the latest safety protocols and operational changes, reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing overall safety awareness.
The integration of KPIs and other performance metrics fostered a sense of unity among the workforce, aligning individual efforts with company-wide goals. The instant messaging feature provided a direct line of communication between HR and employees, facilitating the rapid dissemination of critical information.
By displaying vital information in a clear and accessible manner, the system ensured compliance with health and safety regulations and contributed to a safer working environment. The scalability and flexibility of the system allowed it to be adapted to the unique needs of different areas within the mine, ensuring that all employees received relevant and timely information.
