Port of Tyne

Port of Tyne, a busy deep seaport in the North East of England, utilises digital corporate communications throughout its offices, rest areas, reception and its research and development-focused meeting space, the “Innovation Hub”.

In a fast-moving environment where people’s attention is often split between tasks, the Port recognised the need for a more centralised and impactful communication solution, one that would not only impress visitors but also ensure staff stayed informed in real time. 

We implemented a centrally managed system that displays a diverse range of content from live KPIs and operational data to health and safety updates, internal announcements and corporate messaging. Crucially, the solution handles integration with complex data feeds while also allowing individual screens to show content relevant to their specific locations.

Challenges

Operating across a wide and diverse estate, Port of Tyne faced a number of internal communication challenges. Existing methods of communication were fragmented, making it difficult to deliver consistent and timely information to staff across multiple departments. Departments such as Health & Safety, Operations and IT were relying on their own tools and processes, resulting in silos of information and duplicated effort. 

Additionally, the Port wanted to modernise how it communicated with guests. The existing infrastructure lacked the visual impact and flexibility needed to provide a professional, technology-forward experience in key spaces such as the Innovation Hub and reception areas. 

With information ranging from live operational data to internal documents and safety messaging, the Port needed a digital signage solution that could handle multiple data streams, output tailored content per screen and be easily updated by internal teams.

To meet these needs, ZetaDisplay delivered a bespoke digital signage solution, tailored specifically to the complexity and operational demands of the Port of Tyne.

Elsewhere, rest areas and staff zones featured content focused on employee engagement, safety alerts and company updates, keeping staff informed without interrupting workflow. 

This scalable system gives Port of Tyne full autonomy to schedule, manage and adapt content across its estate, ensuring agility in a fast-paced operational environment.
